2011 MACBOOK PRO RAM UPGRADE 8GB PRO

Since there's still a high-end 13" MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini on Intel, there's presumably higher-end versions of these coming, so if you need more power in a 13" laptop or a small desktop then that'll come sooner than you might think - but since it's in higher-end models, it's come at a higher price point too. The caveat here is that higher-end models that haven't switched yet will presumably feature more cores, etc. M1 is on Apple's ninth-generation microarchitecture, so don't expect massive gen1->gen2 gains. Now I'm not saying to go and buy the cheapest possible device (That won't do you good), but I'm saying it doesn't practically make sense to go overboard with futureproofing most of the time, because there will always be something better in the horizon, and the more you pay for your device, the more obliged you will be to hold onto it even when there is something so much better 5 years down the line. You have less of a chance of that single device failing and you also probably will end up with the better device in the end because you bought a new one 5 generations down the line. While it probably will cost a little more (or less) combined than that one device.

If you were concerned about longevity, you may be better of buying two midranged devices over the timespan of the one speced out device. Price to performance ratio for most electronics is exponential, meaning it's pretty linear at the budget/ midrange but once you get to the high end, prices skyrocket and isn't necessarily proportional to the value you get out of it. The only time I can see it making sense is if you need that high performance now, like your profession demand a speced out MacBook for certain task (Hardcore video editing or something). From a practical standpoint it doesn't make much sense most of the time. In my opinion, other than the fact that futureproofing is cool. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
